Introducing our “Southern Stars” Team

Looking to the future of both our Region and towards the 2018 Annual, we are proud to announce the formation of the “Southern Stars” Team. This group is comprised of individuals from across the region. Their focus is on both the Regional Awards Banquet and planning/fundraising for the upcoming Annual. We believe that this committee concept will strengthen relationships throughout the Region and allow us to access talent from everyone who wishes to participate.

This core committee consists of:

Regional Director                               Jean Dugger

Treasurer:                                        Graham Stevens

Regional Secretary:                           Teresa Keiger
(Including Regional Show Secretary)

Regional Liaisons & Fundraising:
Deb Curtis, Kenny Currle – North
Karen Lane, Karen Boyce – South
Des Spencer, Laura Barber – West

Web Developer                                  Teresa Keiger

Communication &
Volunteer Coordinator                       Jo Ann Miksa-Blackwell

I understand that some very promising fundraising ideas are already being discussed!

Plans for the banquet are well underway, and they are in the very capable hands of Connie Wardlaw and her team. The hotel had a delay in finalizing meal selections, but they will be in place first of next week. Donna Willbanks will again be handling sponsorships, and that information will also be up very shortly.

It takes a Region to produce an Awards Banquet and an Annual and these capable people are just the leaders of these projects. But it takes more than leaders.

We need people. We need ideas. We need you.

Please reach out to any of us with your ideas. If you are interested in volunteering, contact Jo Ann to discuss the many opportunities still available.

Thank YOU for being a Southern Star!
My best to you and all your kitties!

November 2014

Dear Southern Region Members:

This year is flying by! It is almost time for the World Show – with Thanksgiving and Christmas right behind that! We have had successful shows in our region – Cats Exclusive put on a wonderful two-day show in Coconut Creek, Florida, complete with Halloween costumes of both exhibitors and cats, and my own club, Cotton States, put on our usual extravaganza, with the theme of Sweet Confections. Candy and calories were everywhere! Despite the calories, we all had a wonderful time, and everyone seemed to enjoy our theme. Huge kudos go to show manager Joanne Hardeman, as well as Cyndi Lewis and Connie Wardlaw – without them we just couldn’t do it!

Our CFA President, Mark Hannon, and I took a few moments to hold a town hall meeting and share some details about the upcoming World Show, and update everyone about changes in our Central Office, as well as make ourselves available for any questions.

The Board has tasked me with organizing the feedback that has been received about the super specialty show format, which will end after this show season. In addition to that , I wanted everyone to have a voice about show formats, as we (the Board) cannot make informed decisions to benefit our show-producing clubs, if we don’t know what everyone really wants. I passed out a quick survey, that I will attach to this newsletter. I can’t emphasize enough how important your feedback is.

At Cotton States, we also said good-bye to Jacqui Bennett’s son, Robert, as he begins a new chapter of his life in the United State Navy! From one who remembers Robert from the time he was cleaning cages as a ring steward, and then clerking at our shows – this was hard for us! As Robert put it to me – we are all just Moms to him – and he loves us all! We love you too Robert!! Godspeed and safe travels!!

I thank everyone for your support of CFA and our Southern Region! We are the best – because you are the BEST!

Wishing everyone a successful World Show (if you are attending) and a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving! It will be here before we know it!

As you all know by now, the Southern Region Awards & Show will be on June 13-14, 2015, at the Gwinnett Civic Center (location of the Cotton States show), in Atlanta, Georgia. We will have a 4 x 4 show format, and as we are finalizing details, I will get out our show flyer soon. I hope this will help everyone to plan to be there this year for a great Southern Region celebration!

Many of you had mentioned to me how much you missed our Daytona show, which was traditionally our end of the season show for many years. I very much wanted to honor those requests, and several of us have looked high and low for an affordable show hall for the last weekend in April. In my quest, I found a great place in my “backyard” which is very affordable. A great place for a show – but not at that time! I discussed this with representatives from both Rebel Rousers and Atlanta Phoenix, and we all felt that putting another show in the Atlanta vicinity that close to these two shows could have a serious impact on all of them – NOT WORTH IT in my book – as nothing is worth hurting a club’s bottom line that could impact on their ability to put on a show again!! I asked Kathyrn for her help, and she gave me a list of our open dates in 2015. We were thinking that the first of October is a possibility for our regional fundraiser, so we are considering that. I want us to try out this great facility – it may be a good permanent addition to our show calendar.

Speaking of show dates – if any club is looking for a date for a show – we definitely have some open weekends. I will be glad to help you look at the dates to see if it would be right for your club,
