Emergency Measures

Due to current airline security measures, expanded check-in lead times, and schedule changes, the CFA Board agreed to enact a relaxing of show rules to help judges make their Sunday night flights. The current recommendation for those flying is to arrive at the airport 3 hours prior to flight time. Airline flight schedules are also changing frequently meaning cancelled and/or changed departure times. These emergency measures will be in effect throught the February Board meeting where the need for these measures will be re-evaluated.

Show rules relating to the following recommendations will be relaxed to provide clubs with some flexibility so that the judges can make their Sunday night flights. The following schedule adjustments should help clubs deal with current airline and airport changes and get judges out on Sunday.

Suspend provision of Rule 12.07b that allows only a maximum of four judgings per day per entry. ... It is recommended that a judge not be scheduled to judge more than 250 cats on either day. These changes will allow clubs to adjust schedules to best facilitate getting folks out on time on Sunday to make flights.

Rationale: A policy for this has already been established, one day shows with 6 rings already have more than four judging per day, and the qualifiers you are allowed to judge more than 225 cats in a day.

All of the following suggestions are only needed if the club feels adjustments are necessary so that the judges can make their Sunday night flights.

  • Start at 8 a.m. on Sunday, if necessary
  • More than four judging per day if necessary.
  • More than 225 cats on one day if necessary
  • Emphasis that a much heavier schedule take place on Saturday.
  • Encourage the judges not to dally and be aware of other judges early flights and yield to them if necessary.
  • Caution the judges about carrying anything that could delay their check-through, which will cause their luggage to be searched.

Clubs should also work with their judges to get Sunday schedules as soon as possible to note any potential Sunday scheduling problems. Judges should check their Sunday night flights to ensure the airlines have not made any unexpected changes and report any changes to show management as soon as possible. Clubs shoud also make sure any start time or judging schedule changes are announced often and early during the show to ensure all exhibitors are aware of changes. Exhibitors need to be aware that emergency measures may require scheduling changes and check to see if either the judging schedule or Sunday start time has changed before leaving the show hall on Saturday.

We all need to work together to get through the next few months and continue to make cat shows a success. Your cooperation on these matters will be greatly appreciated by all.
